I’m sure you’ve seen in the news this week that the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme is now running for the month of August. If you think you are eligible and need assistance with registration then feel free to get in touch and we can assist – we’ve registered a number of our clients already and the process is straightforward.
The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme
You can use the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme to offer a discount to diners and encourage them to eat at your restaurant. The key points are as follows:
- The Scheme applies all day every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 31 August 2020.
- It allows you to offer a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner.
- You then claim the discount afforded to the customer back from the government.
- There is no limit to the number of times customers can use the offer during the period of the scheme.
- Alcohol and service charges are excluded from the offer.
Who can register
You can register if your establishment if your business sells food for immediate consumption on the premises, provides its own dining area for eat-in meals and was registered as a food business with the relevant local authority on or before 7 July.
You cannot register an establishment that only offers takeaway food or drink, catering services for private functions or mobile food vans.
Registering for the Scheme
Registration for the Scheme is very similar to registration for the other grants that have been available during the last few months. You will need a Government Gateway account – if you have claimed on the Job Retention Scheme you will have one. The only other information required is standard information about your business (address, VAT number if applicable, and so on).
I would encourage all hospitality businesses to register for this scheme as anecdotal evidence suggests its going to be a popular scheme in August and will give a much needed boost to the sector.
As ever, please feel free to get in touch if you have any queries.
